Against the backdrop of accelerating global energy transition, energy storage technology—key to addressing the intermittency and instability of renewable energy—is gaining increasing attention. However, at the user end, there remain substantial untapped market opportunities. During the 13th International Energy Storage Summit and Exhibition, Sunwoda's mobile energy storage vehicle traveled over 5,000 kilometers from Huizhou, Guangdong, to make its debut in Beijing, showcasing its innovative achievements in mobile energy storage and sparking a new wave of energy storage applications.
Currently, energy storage is driving a global construction boom as a key regulatory resource supporting the development of new energy and power systems. However, some industries still rely on diesel generators for power supply—an uneconomical and environmentally unfriendly approach that can be fully replaced by mobile energy storage technology. As an integrated energy storage solutions provider covering the entire industrial chain, Sunwoda Energy Storage has not only focused on macro-level application scenarios but also paid close attention to the various challenges faced by power users in these "edge" areas. In response, it has launched globally the Sun Era 2000 Series—a 10-meter-long, 2MWh liquid-cooled integrated mobile energy storage vehicle.
Xinjiyuan 2000 is a new mobile energy storage product that integrates liquid-cooled energy storage systems, charging stations, and vehicles into one. Equipped with 40 compact battery packs, its body is 3.4 meters shorter than conventional energy storage vehicles, significantly enhancing maneuverability. Its energy capacity has also increased to 2 MWh—equivalent to the electricity consumption of an average household over two years. More importantly, it embodies a "comprehensive solution" approach, capable of meeting the unique demands of various specialized mobile applications.
For industries such as mining and oil fields, the challenge in achieving green and low-carbon transformation lies in energy supply during outdoor operations. Since exploration and construction sites are often located in remote areas, diesel generators are typically used to meet the power demands of large equipment and operations, resulting in relatively high energy consumption and maintenance costs. Mobile energy storage vehicles can overcome these dispersed power needs by charging during off-peak hours and discharging at required locations, leveraging their mobility. This solution reduces costs by 15–20% compared to diesel generators, increases power output by 1.3 times, and keeps noise levels below 75 decibels, significantly improving the working environment for maintenance operations.
For power grid companies, mobile energy storage vehicles have a broader range of applications. They can meet the professional needs of uninterrupted power supply during grid maintenance, provide backup power for large-scale events such as concerts and major exams, and serve as power sources in outdoor construction sites or emergency rescue operations during unexpected incidents.
Moreover, as the number of new energy vehicles continues to grow rapidly, challenges such as difficulties in building charging stations and long charging times have become increasingly prominent. Mobile energy storage vehicles offer an effective solution. When electric vehicles break down due to low battery and require urgent charging, mobile energy storage units can adopt a "station finds vehicle" approach instead of the traditional "vehicle finds station," enabling more flexible emergency charging services and alleviating the difficulties that new energy vehicle owners face with charging availability and long waiting times.
For professionals in the power industry, mobile energy storage and mobile power equipment are not unfamiliar, although most have traditionally relied on flywheel energy storage technology. According to Guo Junliu, Director of Energy Storage System Solutions at Sunwoda, developing lithium battery-based mobile energy storage vehicles actually involves numerous challenges.
On one hand, it is essential to achieve a rational layout of high-energy-density batteries within limited space while ensuring sufficient driving range. The high-density integration of various internal systems brings complex challenges such as thermal management, safety design, spatial interference, and electromagnetic compatibility, requiring high levels of coordination and optimization. On the other hand, considering that vehicles experience bumps, vibrations, and even collisions during operation, ensuring battery stability and safety becomes critical. Moreover, stable performance across different environments and seasons must be maintained to prevent safety issues such as thermal runaway. Additionally, the industry lacks a mature supply chain and supporting technologies, necessitating customized development for certain key components, which in turn affects research and development progress. Furthermore, mobile energy storage vehicles, as innovative products, involve multiple stages including project approval, production qualification acquisition, and road use permits, requiring coordination with numerous departments and involving relatively complex approval processes that extend project timelines.
However, Sunwoda became the first to launch a 2MWh high-capacity lithium iron phosphate battery mobile energy storage vehicle in a short period, featuring five major advantages: maximum capacity, integrated charging and discharging, shortest overall length, first liquid-cooled model, and ultimate safety. The product was featured on CCTV's financial program. According to reports, this product completed a long-distance road test of over 5,000 kilometers from February 28 to April 6, traveling through more than 20 cities including Huizhou, Longyan, Nanchang, Xiaogan, Zhengzhou, and Shijiazhuang, ultimately arriving at the ESIE 2025 Energy Storage Exhibition in Beijing. Throughout various complex road conditions and extreme temperature environments, the Xinjiyuan 2000 fully demonstrated the practicality and superior performance of its innovative design.
Sunwoda Energy Storage has launched a mobile energy storage vehicle, which not only responds proactively to evolving user-side energy storage demands but also reflects a precise judgment based on its own technological strengths and market trends, driving the energy storage industry toward greater intelligence and broader application scenarios. The Sunjia Yuan 2000, with its pioneering features such as high capacity, high power output, and being the first liquid-cooled model, has initiated and led a new era in mobile energy storage. Going forward, as technology continues to advance and application scenarios expand, mobile energy storage vehicles are expected to play an increasingly important role across various fields, contributing significantly to achieving global carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.
During the 13th International Energy Storage Summit and Exhibition, Sunwoda Energy's mobile energy storage vehicle traveled over 5,000 kilometers from Huizhou, Guangdong, to make its debut in Beijing, showcasing its innovative achievements in the field of mobile energy storage. This mobile unit not only features high energy density and flexibility but also meets power demands across diverse applications such as mining and oil fields, grid operations, and new-energy vehicles, driving the evolution of energy storage technology toward greater intelligence and multi-scenario adaptability. With its innovative design and practical performance, the Xinjiyuan 2000 has pioneered and led a new era in mobile energy storage, offering fresh insights and directions for the global energy storage industry.
